The Youth and Sports Minister, Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah has on Monday, June 17, 2019 presented a cheque of One million Ghana Cedis to the contractor of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium for an immediate expansion of the facility to a FIFA standard.
The edifice which started under the erstwhile John Mahama government in 2016 stalled over lack of funding for the project even though an amount of 1.6M cedis has already been spent in the project.
However, the Sports Minister who has been commissioning sports centers across the various regions in the country presented the cheque to the contractor of the sports facility during his official visit today.
Speaking to the media after the inspecting the abandoned edifice, Honorable Isaac Kwame Asiamah disclosed the government plans in ensuring that the sports facility is upgraded to a modern standard stadium within the shortest possible time.
“I have given the contractor one week to redesign while we proceed. We have not sacked anyone. The contractor is here with us, the consultant is also here, we want them to redesign this project to be a modern standard of sporting infrastructure”, Hon Isaac Asiamah told the media present.
“Initially there were no source of fundings for the project but the National Youth Authority have come to our rescue to help the government erupt a modern standard stadium for the people of Edubiase”, he added.
“What we are asking them is that, if it is an athletics running tracks, it should be of standard of that international one, if it is a football pitch, it should be the standard of what we all know”, the Atwima Mponua Member of Parliament concluded.
Present at the inspection exercise was Hon. Isaac Asiamah, the Ashanti regional minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, Chief Director of Youth and Sports Ministry, Frank Quist, MP for Adansi South, George Oduro, MCE Francis Ankamah, Queen Mother of New Edubiase, Nana Akua Dwum II, National Sports Authority boss, Prof. Peter Twumasi, Technical Director of Youth and Sports Ministry, Dr. Owusu Ansah, Green Grass Technology, Frank Boahen, the National Youth Authority CEO, Mr Asigri among others.
