Traditional heads at the Ahanta Traditional Council have been told to do away with chieftaincy disputes and embrace peace.
According to the Abusuapanyin of the Busia Traditional Area, Nana Kwesi Bediako, Ahanta is lacking behind in terms of development due to the various chieftaincy disputes surrounding the land.[ads2]
His appeal comes following various chieftaincy unrest in Ahanta land whereby some communities have two or more family stool heads (Abusuapanyin), alongside chieftaincy riots among other disputes many believe are entangling development on the land.
Speaking at a forum at the Ahanta West District Assembly on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, Nana Kwesi Bediako revealed that most of the stools on the land is engulfed in disputes, causing Ahantas to retard in development compared to their peers.
Addressing the various family stools heads at the forum, Nana Kwesi Bediako entreated the various traditional heads to be united and embrace peace in order for Ahanta to developed.[ads3]
“We need to be united, Ahanta is not developing because of the numerous chieftaincy disputes engulfing the land. We have have bad roads, our youth don’t have jobs to do but most of the natural resources for Ghana comes from Ahanta”, Nana Bediako said when the various Family Heads and Supis in Ahantaland met to discuss the future and how best they can come together and build a better future for the next generation.
He also appealed to President Akufo-Addo and the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Ebenezer Kojo Kum to step in and help in settling the various chieftaincy disputes engulfing stools in Ahanta land.
Nana Bediako disclosed that, “We will send a petition to the Chieftaincy Minister to lead us meet President Akufo-Addo and plead with him to come to our aide in solving the disputes on the various stools for Ahanta to also develope like its peers. “[ads5]
