Nine pupils between the ages of 11 and 13 of the Asanta Seventh Day Adventist Junior High School in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region have been involved in a fatal accident.
The incident occurred between Asanta and Bobroma on Takoradi to Elubo Highway on Thursday, September 20, 2018 when these school children were returning from school.

Giving the accounts, Georgina Ahoakpole, a student, the eyewitness told the media that a Toyota Hilux with registration number GB 1424-12 from Sinopec Company heading towards to Takoradi, the vehicle veered off the road and knotted them about 35 meters away from the road.
According to her, one of the pupils who was in J.H.S 1 whose is name is (withheld) died on the spot and the eight pupils sustained various degree of injuries and some were rushed to Eikwe St. Martins De Pores Hospital for treatment.
She accounted “The driver was from Sinopec camp at junction, Poda suburb of Bobrama and heading towards Asanta a community which is just about 1 minute drive away from Bobrama. From the junction to accident scene is just about 200 meters away”.
She added “We were 15 returning from school and saw the driver off the road heading towards us and split to run, the driver knotted down the two who informed us the car was coming towards us so we should all run about 35 meters away from the Highway”.
“The electric pole saved us else we would have all been dead by now, she added.
The driver works with Sinopec the Chinese company that constructed the Ghana Gas Company and also laid the pipelines.
Giving the account, another eyewitness, Madam Catherine Lukman said “the driver who was seriously drunk asked me of the whereabouts of the children who were walking off the road and l told him you drove over two of them”.
Our source close to the police shows that “The driver was very drunk so the police has took him (driver) to Adamus Mining Company to test the alcohol level of the him”.

A visit to the Bobroma Community where the children come from, today, Friday, September 21, 2018, seven of the pupils are currently receiving home treatment but one is still at the Eikwe Hospital receiving treatment.
The remain of the 13-year-old of the Asanta S.D.A Junior High School has been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
Police in the District have begun investigations into the incident.
