The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, Hon. Frank Okpenyen popularly known as Franko has donated 400 dual desks with teachers’ furniture to a number of public schools in the municipality to help address the shortage of furniture in the schools due to over-enrollment.
Additionally, some 350 school children of the schools were also given shoes to boost their confidence in punctuality and regularity.
The donation brings the total number of footwear presented by the MCE to the schools to 750. Last two months he supplied 400.
The beneficiary schools were; Roman Catholic Basic School of Axim, Ayisakro M/A primary school, Dadwen M/A Basic School, Ankherenim M/A Basic School, Bokro M/A JHS and Bamianko M/A Junior High School.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held on Tuesday, October 16, 2016, the MCE reiterated his commitment to maintain Education as a priority as it remained the backbone of socio-economic development, irrespective of one’s geographical location.
The MCE charged both teachers and the pupils to embrace the culture of maintenance to ensure the furniture donated is put to judicious and lasting use.
He charged the pupils to commit to learning and discipline and pledged support for as many pupils who excel in their studies to reach the highest attainment possible.
He, therefore, urged the pupils to take their studies seriously and avoid involvement in immoral acts that could end their educational career.
The MCE assured the other schools to distribute the rest of the furniture in due course.
He promised to liaise with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Catherine Afeku to improve educational performance in the area.
He pledged the Assembly’s readiness to commit more resources in providing facilities to ensure quality education for the nation’s development.
He urged parents to shun all cultural stereotypes that hindered the education of children, especially the girl-child, for an accelerated growth.
The MCE said he observed that during his visit to the school pupils in the school were in need of desks and therefore ordered for the desks for the them together with tables and chairs for the teachers.
Before the donation, pupils of Bokro M/A primary school were seen either sitting on kitchen stools or lying on the floor of study and write notes, a situation the pupils said affected their academic performance.
The donation was to create a conducive environment for the pupils to be able to study well and improve their academic performance.
The headmaster of Bokro M/A primary school, Mr. Joseph Nyansu Nda thanked the MCE and the Member of Parliament for the area for kind gesture and pledged to reciprocate by utilizing the furniture effectively and efficiently.
He said the donation by the MCE has come at the right time adding that it would motivate the children to be regular to school.
He revealed that previously the lack of school furniture was a headache adding that some pupils always carry kitchen stools to class and some too lie on their stomachs to learn.
He, used the opportunity to bless the MCE and the MP of coming to their aid and added “we thanked them very much because previously our school children were finding it difficult to learn, some bring kitchen stools to class and sometimes five pupils use one desk to learn”.
He, therefore, called on the MCE to add more and also appealed to the Assembly to establish a brand new JHS classroom block for the community, he said the current structure is nothing to ride home about and revealed that the structure is now a dead trap.
At Bamianko Junior High School
The MCE donated dual desks with teachers’ furniture and also gave shoes to the pupils.
The MCE revealed that he observed during his visit to Kakusuazo M/A Basic School where he donated desks to the school, that some of the school children barefooted to school and that motivated him to provide them with the shoes and extended it other deprived schools in the Municipality.
He urged the pupils especially the JHS 3 pupils to take their studies seriously and learn hard to become great leaders and support the development of the Municipality in future.
“It is my prayer that you will learn hard and become like Ministers, Teachers, Journalists, MCEs, Doctors, MPs and others and help this Municipality to grow. I also call on you to respect people and be disciplined”, he advised them.
The MCE, therefore, used the occasion promise the Form 3 pupils that if one or more get aggregate 6 in the 2019 BECE, that particular student or more, will be given 1,000 Ghana Cedis.
He reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring quality education for all children of school going age and tasked the children to make good use of the items to achieve its intended purposes.
He, therefore, advised the pupils to take their studies seriously since they are the future leaders of the country.
He also advised them to refrain from deviant behaviours that will affect their future and respect their parents and also be God-fearing.
He used the occasion to encourage the teaching staff to work hard and urged them to work hard with patience, humility and selfless in other to upbringing the children to become good future leaders.
He also urged the teachers to take good care of the future leaders of the Municipality.
He pledged the assembly’s readiness to commit more resources in providing facilities to ensure quality education for the nation’s development.
He promised to donate some items to other school children and disclosed that the gesture is not going to be a nine-day wonder but would be done every term.
He also used the opportunity and promised to liaise with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Catherine Afeku to improve educational performance in the area.
He also thanked the MP for the immense support given to the Assembly to improve educational performance in the area.
He also advised them to refrain from deviant behaviours that will affect their future and respect their parents and also be God-fearing.

On his part, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Thomas Quarm expressed his profound gratitude to the MCE for donating another furniture and shoes for the school.
He assured the MCE that the furniture will be properly maintained to last long.
“May Almighty God bless the MCE and his MP for supporting us, this is the second time the MCE has done this donation to this school and in fact we are very happy”, he excited.
He also advised the pupils to make good use of the shoes to achieve it intended purposes and well too.
Moreover, the pupils also expressed their appreciation towards the MCE and promised him to learn hard in order to become future leaders of this country and also prayed hard for the MCE to live long.
They added that the furniture will help them to learn well.
