A 16-year-old girl, Olayemi, committed suicide after her mistress’ husband allegedly raped her in Oyo State.
Olayemi usually hawked with her mother in Temidire town until someone complained about her idleness. She introduced her parents to a trusted mistress, with whom she was enrolled in apprenticeship training at Eruwa.
Her mistress agreed to shelter the child with her parents’ consent during training. This was because of the distance between her home and her workplace.
One day, her parents were informed that Olayemi had drunk some chemicals believed to be poison after being raped by her mistress’ husband. She unfortunately committed suicide.
