The Ghana Football Association confirmed that Alexander Djiku, a defender for Ghana based in Turkey, will not play in the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger because of an injury.
After suffering a thigh injury in the 61st minute of Friday night’s match against Alanyaspor, the 30-year-old, who played for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig, hobbled off.
After preliminary scans, it was discovered that the athlete had suffered a Grade One strain in the quadriceps, the front portion of his right leg.
He would require 10 to 14 days to recuperate, which would prevent him from competing in the qualifiers.
Otto Addo included Djiku in his 23-man team for Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchups against Niger and Angola.
