Kwesi Addae, a 45-year-old Ghanaian man who was living in the United States, has been officially declared dead following his fall from a 30-foot building on the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
According to an NIH spokesperson who confirmed the incident to local media, Akwasi Addae passed away instantly. Investigations are currently being conducted to determine the cause of the death.
According to police sources, Addae performed exterior building repairs at around 12:30 p.m. on the day he fell through the grate and into an air-handling intake shaft.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified of the incident by the NIH’s Occupational Health and Safety Division. Both groups are set to investigate the cause of Addae’s fall and “confirm appropriate safety measures are in place and followed.”
The date for his burial has been set for March 2024 in Maryland.
