Five parliamentary candidates belonging to the National Democratic Congress have teamed up to renovate the deteriorated Gyandu Park to assist football clubs in the western region.
Gyandu Park has been the home ground for the two most followed Western Region Clubs, Hasaacas and Eleven Wise – but its current state which is below the standard required by the Ghana Football Association’s License Board forced the clubs to resort to Sekondi Sports Stadium as their home ground.

Hasaacas, since the emergence of Sekondi Sports Stadium in 2008, has made the facility its home ground; Eleven Wise, preferred using the Gyandu Park, but their recent participation in the GFA organized FA Cup chaired by their former chairman, Honorable Wilson Arthur saw the “Show Show” side using the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
Gyandu Park has also been the home ground for Proud United FC, another Division One League club and several other juvenile clubs including Essikado based Rail Stars FC. Proud United for the 2019/2020 season moved to Sekondi Sports Stadium because of the unfit state of Gyandu Park to host Division One League matches.
With the closure of the Sekondi Sports Stadium for renovation works, there’s uncertainty as to where these clubs in the twin-city will use as their home venue when football returns.

Several dignitaries belonging to the New Patriotic Party on Monday, May 4, 2020 cut sod for the commencement of the estimated GHS 17m renovation works at the Sekondi Sports Stadium led by Honorable Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports, the WR Minister, Honorable Kobby Okyere Darko, other MPs and MCEs in the region.
The move connotes that clubs using the facility have to turn attention to other venue when football returns after COVID – 19 Pandemic.

Per the estimated projections made by the Secretary of the WR Football Association, who also serves on the GFA Clubs Licensing team in charge of venue inspections it would cost GHS 80,000 – 0.47 percent of the fees to be used to fix the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
In the wisdom of these top dignitaries belonging to the NDC, they’ll aid in the renovations of Gyandu Park to assist the two giant Sekondi clubs and other clubs in the twin-city www.kyfilla.com has learnt.
Checks done by www.kyfilla.com indicate that the move was birthed by Michael Otoo, the aspiring MP for Effia Constituency and has thus far made contact with the other four candidates; Charles Hagan also known as Panya, who’s vying for the Sekondi seat, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman, of the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Lawyer Frederick Faidoo of the Takoradi constituency and Essikado-Ketan’s Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah.

Speaking to some of the indigenes and sports lovers it appears clearly that the facility’s current state harms the growth of football, their preferred sport.
“Gyandu’s state is an eyesore, and sometimes you wonder whether we have leaders in the metropolis, I don’t care who fixes it, what I need is the facility being able to host top games just like in the past” – someone who wants to remain anonymous.
“I’ll personally aid anyone who’ll be willing to help push the state and change some of the bad things at the facility. I will donate to the cause and help with my strength, I’m certain most of our Sekondi brothers will willingly support this cause” – he gave his name as Kwame and talked to us in Fante.
