56 miners have been arrested in a major crackdown on illegal mining activities in Kadadwen, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. The suspects have been handed over to the Western Regional Police Command for further investigation.
The joint operation, conducted on Thursday, March 13, involved personnel from the Western Naval Command, Second Infantry Battalion, and police services in the Western Region. The operation targeted specific areas, including:
• Site Six of Ghana Rubber Company Ltd.
• North Palm Oil Plantation
• Kada Dwen
• Parts of the Mpohor District
Security forces seized and destroyed 25 Changfang machines and confiscated several pieces of equipment, including:
• 3 motorbikes
• 9 pumping machines
• 3 excavators
• 3 pay-loaders (from Ahanta West)

Brigadier General (Rtd.) Musa Whajah, the Western Regional Security Liaison Officer, emphasized the need for a different approach in tackling illegal mining. He assured that the suspects will be screened, and those found culpable will face prosecution.
More Arrests in Subri Forest Reserve
In a separate operation on Wednesday, March 12, a joint Rapid Response Team from the Tarkwa and Takoradi Forest Districts of the Forestry Commission arrested eight illegal miners in the Subri Forest Reserve. Security forces also seized seven motorcycles and three tricycles used for mining activities.
