Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly spends about GH¢76,000 on fixing stolen electrical cables of street lighting systems in the metropolis.
This expenditure is often borne at the expense of other services that could have been provided to support the development and growth of the metropolis.
Mayor for the metropolis, Anthony K.K Sam at a recent ordinary meeting bemoaned the rampant stealing of underground electrical cables that connects street-lighting systems in the city. He called on residents to provide information for the arrest of these criminals.
“It is worrying to note that nation wreckers have made it their business to steal the underground cables and I am calling on the general public to help arrest these perpetrators”, he exclaimed.
The mayor added that ” the assembly would continue to maintain and repair the streets light as it is work in progress”
