It is usually not common to see any public office being accountable to the public especially in our part of the world. This trend is gradually changing in Ghana. Mpohor as a district has never seen any tenure of public official being accountable to the populace than the current district administration.
On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, the people of Mpohor were subjected to accountability by the Office of the Member of Parliament and the office of the District Chief Executive in a well-organized forum which was well attended by majority of the stakeholders in the district.
This initiative which is first of its kind did not only bring some sign of relief among the doubting youth but also presented the people of the district the opportunity to know their share of the national cake.
In attendance of this gracious occasion was the Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwaw Entsie (IV), Hon. Alex Kofi Agyekum, MP of Mpohor District and also the Chairman of the parliamentary committee on Sports and culture, Hon. Ignatius Asaah Mensah, the DCE of Mpohor District and other high-profile government institutions.
Speaking on the district’s share of government policies and programs, the DCE said that, NABCO which is the government’s way of reducing graduate unemployment, had 190 applicants but 150 were successful in their application. He also noted that, the district currently has over 1000 students on the government’s flagship free SHS.
He continued that, the district has quite a number of farmers who are already on the planting for food and jobs programs. He also said that, two (2) business tycoons the district has already expressed interest to partner the government for the one district, one factory (1D1F) program. He also said that the district has secured employment to some youth in COCOBOD and Twyford.
Speaking on the road which was sod-cut some months ago, the MP revealed that, he has queried the contractor on two occasions. The contractor in his response to the queries apologized for the delay and promised to get the job done soonest.
The meeting also saw some members of the district receive some items under the LESDEP program which was presented by the Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional area.
Speaking on the first ever forum, Mr. Gideon Mireku Boamah, a resident in the district expressed satisfaction and begged the District to make this an annual program for the residents in the district to have first hand information on whatever is happening in the district.
In conclusion, the DCE thanked all present for their time and promised a better Mpohor District under the current national administration.
