Concerned football loving fans in the Western region have served a notice to stage a massive demonstration against the Sports ministry for neglecting the Sekondi Sports Stadium,Essipong.
The Sekondi Sports Stadium which was built to be among the stadia to host the 2008 AFCON had not seen any renovation works, and it’s now in an awful state.
With this, the residents in the region are angry about the current situation of the edifice which nears collapsing.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Assiamah in his recent visit to the region promised to renovates the structure but almost a year now, the stadium is yet to see any renovation.
The residents of the region were incensed when the Sekondi Sports Stadium was replaced as one of the venues to host the just ended WAFU tournament in Ghana because according to the organizers of the tournament, the stadium won’t meet international standard due to it atrocious state.
The residents in the region also feel neglected because it’s been a while the stadium hosted the Black Stars, Starlets, Satellites, Meteors and even the women’s national teams.
Also three cities Cape Coast, Accra and Kumasi have been selected for the 2023 All African Games which will be hosted by Ghana and the residents in the Western region feel neglected after the region was omitted from the Cities to host the upcoming event.
