The maiden edition of the National Sports Authority ,NSA(Western Region) in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s Inter-districts athletics championship has been launched.
The ceremony was held today 25th November,2018 at the Lobby Hall – Sekondi Sports Stadium.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, the Western Regional Sports Authority boss, Mr. Jeffrey Owusu Manzam stated the aim of the championship is to get a core group to call a regional team and also have a data of every regional athlete.
Nana Kofi Arbonah IV, the chief of Essipong Traditional Area who was the chairperson for the ceremony entreats authorities in the Western region to support the event and also lauded GNPC for their immense support to the success of the championship.
“As the theme of the championship goes, we should all throw our support for this event and also thanks to GNPC for being the main headline sponsor for the event”, she said.
This maiden edition of the NSA, GNPC Inter-districts athletics championship is under the theme “Enhancing Western sports and creating opportunities through athletics”.
In attendance was the Omanhene of Essipong Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Arbonah IV, DCE OF Wassa East, Honorable Wilson Arthur, DCE for SHAMA, Honorable Joseph Mensah, the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, representatives from SHAMA and the STMA, the participating districts and the media.
Twenty- three districts in the Western region would be participating in the championship with those who will selected by the technical committee to form a regional team to participate in unity games and other regional championships.
The event is slated for Saturday 1st December,2018 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium with 10 event to be taken place.
