With the aim of increasing the Ghanaian participation in table tennis, the Emmanuel Bannerman Table Tennis Championship has been held in Takoradi, Western region.
The one day competition which saw teams from the Western region, Greater Accra and Cape Coast participating for the ultimate was held today 7th December,2018 at the Sekondi Sports Stadium.
Western Region team 1 were first with Cent Loopers from the Central region placing second whereas Greater Accra based Faith Club were third and Western region team 2 languishing at the fourth position.
In the Men’s Singles, Emmanuel Commey emerged as the champion with Joseph Amissah placing second and the delight to watch Augustine Baidoo sitting third whereas James Aryee placed fourth.
Diana Mills, in the Women’s Singles placed first with Sarah Twumasi sitting second in the competition.
The dazzling Romeo Ansah and partner Augustine Baidoo finished first in the doubles with Joseph Amissah and Emmanuel Bannerman placing second whereas Emmanuel Commey and James Aryee were third with Laden Adjin and Sampson Awusie languishing at the fourth place.
After the competition, Mr. Daniel Twumasi Ampofo was handed an excellence award for his immense contribution to the Table Tennis Association and Mr. Yacuub Ayika awarded for his over 25 years of dedication to the growth of Table Tennis in the country.
Also, Mr. Emmanuel Bannerman who is the Chairman for the Western Region Table Tennis Association was awarded for his excellent vision towards the growth of Table Tennis in Ghana.
Faith Club from the Greater Accra were awarded for participating in the championship.
Mr. Emmanuel Bannerman in an interview with Kyfilla.com expressed his profound gratitude to the teams for participating in the championship and encouraged Ghanaians to pay attention to table tennis.
” We thank the teams for participating in the championship and also making it a successful one”, he said.
” What I will say is, Ghanaians should more pay attention to table tennis because you can even play it when in your 50’s.
