Winnifred Ntumi has won Ghana’s first medal in the ongoing Africa Seniors Weightlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
The enterprising weightlifter was Ghana’s first athlete to compete in the competition but managed to clinch bronze in the women’s 49kg bodyweight category.
She mounted the podium for her bronze medal after snatching 57kg and 67kg in the clean and jerk category to make a total of 124kg.
Speaking after winning the bronze medal, Winnifred Ntumi thanked the Ghana’s Envoy to Egypt, His Excellency Dr. Winfred Nii Okai Hammond and Ghana Olympics Committee President, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah for their massive supports towards the competition.
“I’m very happy for this but first of all, I thank Dr. Winfred Nii Okai Hammond for the warm reception and the encouragement prior to the competition and also to Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah for contributing massively towards the competition”, she said.
