Schools in the Western region have shown clearly the work needed to be done to at least close in on the gap of disgrace at the National Science and Maths Quiz competition.
Daboase Senior High Technical School shockingly managed just 5 points, averaging a point every round in a competition that the winner had 62 points.
Western Region continue to slip in the rankings, being pushed away by the consistent below-par outputs in the national competition.
Since Ghana Secondary Technical School 7 years ago triumph as the best school in the competition the preceding years, schools from the region have made little or no impact for the past 7 competitions.
Schools struggle even to make the semifinal stage and there has been no school from the Western region in the last 5 finals.
The 2019 edition of the competition tipped off today, June 17 and again the first two competitions, schools from the Western region showcased chasmic level of not being up there among other schools from other regions.
So what really is the problem?
The first Western region representative, Daboase Senior High Technical School garnered perhaps a record low 5 points in the competition’s history after five rounds. Apam SHS had 62 points to top the competition and regional mates, Winneba SHS also finished second with 21 points.
And Fiaseman SHS also from Tarkwa in the Western Region managed 15 points in a competition that the winner, Kpando SHS had 28 followed by Saviour SHS with 22.
Apam SHS: 62pts
Winneba SHS: 21pts
Western Region – Daboase SHTS: 05pts
Kpando SHS: 28pts
Saviour SHS: 22pts
Western Region – Fiaseman SHS: 15pts
