Division One League side FC Samartex 1996 have emerged champions of the 2019 Western Region Invitational Tournament after beating Elmina Sharks in the finals.

Goals from Richmond Kwofie and the sensational Benjamin Yorke ensured that FC Samartex pipped the Premiership outfit 2-1 to lift the ultimate.
The first half was a balanced game as both clubs enjoyed possession, creating some decent chances.

FC Samartex 1996 utilized their chances in the early minutes of the game, which led to Richmond Kwofie’ opener in the cagey encounter.
Elmina Sharks bounced back very stronger after conceding the first goal to a tantalizing showdown.

Isaac Donkor pulled the parity for coach Yaw Acheampong’ side who launched a fearsome attack on Samartex.
After pulling the parity, the Elmina based side continued to dominate, pilling pressure on the defense of Samartex but they were able to defend gallantly untill the first half came to a close.

Sharks came back from the recess to continue their dominance which saw Samartex player Frederick Quayson shown the exit doors after a bad play.
Suddenly, ten men FC Samartex side were in control of the game, leading to a second goal from Black Stars ‘B’ attacker Benjamin Yorke.

The youngster scored from a one-on-one situation which he whacked the ball pass goalkeeper Richard Atta.
Sharks became more fearful in attack as Benjamin Tweneboah and co pushed hard for the equalizer but to no avail. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Samartex.
After the game, Samartex shot stopper Lawrence Ansah was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament with three clean sheets whiles Skyy FC’ Francis Oteng Gyetuah scored three goals to clinch the topscorer award with Benjamin Yorke of FC Samartex winning the overall best player of the tournament.
