Experienced defender John Boye was excluded from the Black Stars of Ghana 23-member squad for 2021 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé and Principe.

The 32-year old towering defender was not part of coach Kwesi Appiah squad due to injury.

Boye sustained an injury during FC Metz 1-0 win over Nantes in the French Ligue 1 fortnight ago and was ruled unfit for Ghana’ AFCON qualifiers opening matches against South Africa and São Tomé and Principe.

He couldn’t last the ninety minutes of the match against Nantes, as he was replaced by Zambia International Stoppila Zunzu at half time.
The former Hearts of Lions centre-back has been exceptional for Metz since joining them two seasons ago from Sivasspor in the Turkish league.
His absence means, coach Kwesi Appiah will now have to rely on Celta Vigo defender Joseph Ainoo, Kassim Nuhu of TSG Hoffenheim as well as Real Villadolid’s Mohammed Salisu during the two matches.

John Boye as well as other key players like Asamoah Gyan, Jonathan Mensah, Christian Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah were all not part of the Black Stars 23-member squad released today.
Ghana face South Africa in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday, November 14 before traveling to São Tomé and Principe to face them on November 18, 2019.
