New cases of the novel coronavirus that emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late December are being reported daily around the world.

More than 5,700 people globally have died from COVID-19, as the illness is officially known, while more than 152,000 infections have been confirmed in dozens of countries, according to the World Health Organization.

A total of 697 people on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship docked at Yokohama had tested positive for the virus. Seven people who were on the ship have died.
