It is believed that Atsu told the current Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor his decision of not returning to the Black Stars again when the gaffer visited him in England during his European tour recently.
According to Atsu, no officials from the Ghana Football Association contacted him when he sustained an injury which nearly caused him his career while on national duty.

Atsu is believed to have explained that when he sustained an injury in the 2019 AFCON in Ghana’s goalless game against Cameroon, no member of the GFA contacted him to find out how he was doing.
The injury saw Christian Atsu losing his starting place in the Newcastle United squad to emergency signing Allan Saint-Maximum and even winning bonuses and had to rely on salaries alone.
Atsu has been donning the Black Stars jersey since July 2012 when he placed his debut game against Lesotho and even scored in the process.
