Former Hearts of Oak forward Kwame Kizito has debunked claims by Thomas Abbey that due to unpaid salaries and bonuses led to Hearts of Oak’s 3–1 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the final of the 2017 MTN FA Cup.
The Phobians were slandered by three first half goals courtesy Saddick Adams before Thomas Abbey pulled a goal back in the second half to end the game 3–1.
3 years on, Thomas Abbey has revealed, the Phobians lost the game due to some unpaid salaries and bonuses owed the players.

According the former skipper, players were reluctant to train due to the situation which forced them to put up that abysmal first half performance at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
The reaction from Abbey has informed some strong comments from some of his play-mates who are saying the comments are rather untrue and the defeat was justified by the opponent’s better performance on the day.
Vincent Atinga, Leonard Tawiah and Kwame Kizito are those who have commented on the matter.
Kwame Kizito who’s currently playing for Swedish side BK Haken, has swats those claims, calls it untrue.

“I was very disappointed in Abbey’s comment. We were determined to win the game, we even used flight to go and play the game. All our bonuses and salaries were paid in full before the game.
“All the players were determined – it had been a while Hearts of Oak won an FA Cup title or even go to final – the game was a final and we were very determined. Even after recess, we were all tears in the dressing room. We just lost the game, maybe Abbey played to lose, but don’t think any of the other player had something like that in mind.
“I am not sure management paid some of the players and left others. Every player was paid because most of the players received alerts in the team bus in some of our previous games” – Kizito told Solomon Amankwah of Kyzz FM.
