According to Ampiah who was part of the Black Stars squad that finished second at the 1992 African Cup of Nations at Senegal, most of the leaders during their time were after their parochial interest and shortchanged the players.
He revealed that players in the AFCON 1992 team were paid USD 10.00 as per diems and there were some promises after the tournament that till date haven’t been fulfilled.
“I supported Black Stars demanding for huge money, I supported because after the 1992 Cup of Nations, [then president]Rawlings promised us something when he heard Ivory Coast has been given one house each.

“Companies that gave out money to be given to us was not given to us, none of the promises was even fulfilled. We were receiving USD 10.00 as per diem. Even some of the leaders wanted to conceive what FIFA had given all players of the tournament. If we didn’t put some monies somewhere most of us would have a laughingstock by now” – Emmanuel Ampiah on Nhyira FM.
Ampiah was part of the Black Stars team that were defeated by Ivory Coast at the final of the 1992 AFCON.
