GNPC Foundation, the social investments arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) on Tuesday 1st May,2018 joined forces with Ghana Premier League side Karela United FC along side the local folks for a massive clean up exercises at the Karela Beach Resort in Benyin in Western region .
The event saw staffs from the GNPC Foundation participating in the exercise alongside supporters of the club, the entire Karela United Family and some nearby communities.
This exercise serves as a form of preparation and awareness as Karela United host Kumasi Asanti Kotoko on Wednesday 2nd May,2018 at the dreadful Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Ayinase in Week 11 of the Ghana Premier League.
Karela United , led by their President Senator David Kobina Brigidi, Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Cudjoe and the entire playing body together with the technical team joined a delegation from GNPC Foundation led by Dr. Kwame Baah Nuako, who is the General Manager in charge of sustainability for the foundation and Moses Antwi- Benefo, Head of Media and PR and other staff members to clean up the Karela Beach Resort.
Speaking to the press about the the rational behind the exercise., Dr Kwame Baah Nuako said
” As part of our environment and social amenities agenda. GNPC Foundation partnered with Karela United to undertook this clean up exercise which is about 5km.
“People are making treasures out of this [Karela Beach Resort] but we don’t see the importance of this place.People can even organized some activities here to get money and we can even make it a major tourist attraction.
“GNPC Foundation are considering instituting an award for communities that keeps their surroundings clean.We have also decided to build toilets facilities for Nkroful and other communities in the Western region to keep our environment clean.This can help keep our people fit.
“I thank the director of this place for accepting my request when I told him of this idea some three days ago but he accepted it and today we decided to initialize it .
