The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George has kicked against the police for preventing the NDC MPs from petitioning the Electoral Commission.
The NDC MPs (Minority in Parliament) walked from Parliament through to the headquarters of the Electoral Commission to petition the chairperson Jean Mensa on the results of the 2020 elections.[ads2]
Since the declaration of President Akufo-Addo and the NPP as winners of the just ended December polls, the NDC who are the leading opposition party have rejected the results, claiming the EC has rigged the elections to the advantage of the NPP.
Aside going to court, the NDC supporters have been embarking on several demonstrations as a way of expressing their dissatisfaction about the election results.[ads3]
However, the NDC legislators took to themselves on Tuesday morning to petition the chairperson of the Electoral Commission about the results of the 2020 December polls.
Led by the Minority leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu alongside the chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, the legislators were prevented from going beyond a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout in Accra.
The MPs defied the orders of the police who said they were not aware of any walk by the Minority to the EC offices.
But speaking to Joy News, Hon. Sam Nartey George believes the police had absolutely no right to have stopped the MPs from petitioning the Electoral Commission chairperson.[ads4]
“The Police had absolutely no right to stop Minority MPs from presenting our petition to the EC. This is not a protest”, he said.
Some of the MPs who undertook the walk include A.B.A Fuseini, Mahama Ayariga, Mutawakilu Adam and Laadi Ayii Ayamba among others.[ads5]
