The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been banned from embarking on further protests in Accra.
This was contained in a statement from the Accra Regional Police Command, stating that its has secured a restraining order against the leading opposition party for embarking on protests and demonstrations in the nation’s capital.[ads2]
The NDC have been protesting against the results of the just ended 2020 December polls after it was announced by the Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission declared President Akufo-Addo as the winner of the presidential elections after the NPP flagbearer pulled 6,730,587 votes (51.3%) whiles competitor and flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama amassed 6,213,182 (47.3%).[ads3]
But since the declaration, the NDC have rejected the results, threatening to use every legitimate means to challenge the decision announced by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The party have been embarking on nationwide demonstration which include their MPs storming the premises of the Electoral Commission to petition the body about the results of the 2020 general elections.[ads4]
The NDC believe the election was rigged in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
But in a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command stated the NDC is prohibited from embarking on protests and demonstrations from Sunday, December 30, 2020 to January 10, 2021.
