A welfare club made up of fan of Manchester United and football enthusiasts based in the Western and Central Regions presented some donations to the dialysis Center at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital. The kind gesture was part of activities to to mark the new year.
The club draws membership from the football fraternity and aims at supporting and ensuring welfare of members, and to also help solve societal problems.[ads2]
The items presented included medical gloves, detergents, tissues, washing powder, milo, nido, bottled water and an undisclosed amount of money.
The club was led by the vice President, Yaw Effah Barima and one of the 3 patrons, Michael Mensah ably supported by members, most of whom were clad in Manchester United jerseys to present the donations.[ads3]
“When we reached a decision to make a donation, a team was put together to look for a place where our support will be needed most. After 2 weeks of enquiries, the team settled on the dialysis Center for various reasons. The club quickly adopted the recommendations of the team having been convinced of the distress situation most patients at the centre go through, and for the fact that there isn’t much publicity about the activities of the center” remarked Effah-Barima.[ads4]
The head of the centre, Ms Irene Jacobs who happens to be deputy director of nursing services who together with the staff present received the items, thanked the club for the kind gesture and called on other organisations to also come to the aid of the.
She ceased the opportunity to advice members to live life in moderation in order to avoid renal related conditions which according to her is very pervasive among the youth these days.
The club will be officially outdoored in the second quarter of this year.
