The member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region, Sarah Adwoa Safo has been nominated by President Akufo-Addo for the position as Minister for Gender,Children and Social Protection.
This was contained in a list from the Communication Directorate of the Presidency dated January 21, 2021.[ads2]
Adwoa Safo who was the state minister in charge of Procurement during the first term of President Akufo-Addo has been handed the new ministerial role subject to Parliament prior approval.
With President Akufo-Addo eager to prioritize the works and housing ministry, former deputy chief of staff, Francis Asenso-Boakye has been designated for the position.
The Bantama MP who has a close relationship with President Akufo-Addo will have former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and currently MP for Tano North in the Ahafo Region, Freda Prempeh as the deputy.[ads1]
Also, the MP for Effia Constituency in the Western Region and former deputy energy minister, Joseph Cudjoe has been pencilled to be in charge of Public Enterprises, a ministry that will be operating directly under the ambit of the Presidency, and not from a Ministry and also oversee a major restructuring of the entire state-owned enterprises sector to improve the productivity and profitability of the sector.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Presidency state that President Akufo-Addo will be working with ministers not exceeding eighty-five (85), down from the one hundred and twenty- six (126) that characterised his first term in office.
Seven Ministries, namely Aviation, Business Development, Inner City and Zongo Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning, Regional Re-organisation and Development, and Special Development Initiatives, have been realigned.[ads4]
The President has effected this realignment because virtually all these special-purpose Ministries have achieved the purposes for which they were established.
The statement also states that the office of the Senior Minister has also been abolished. This will result in a total of twenty-eight (28) Ministries, down from the thirty-six (36) of his first term.
