President Akufo-Addo has said that starting Thursday, April 1, 2021 all national identification numbers will become tax identification numbers (TIN) as a means to formalise informal areas.
The President said this during his first state of the nation address in his second term on Tuesday.[ads2]
According to the president, formalising the informal areas is key to the economic growth of the country.
He stated that for the first time government has enrolled 15.5million people onto the national ID card system and will complete the process this year.[ads3]
He emphasized the process is not an ‘April fool ‘ prank and if the formalisation is due the number of people registered by GRA for tax purposes will increase from current 3million to 15.5million.
