The Ghana Immigration Service has been informed of a prison break at Owerri State in Nigeria.
Over 1,800 prisoners escaped from the Owerri Prison on April 5, 2021 with reports from Nigeria indicating that the jail break happened when gunmen attacked the prison with explosives and later setting the police station ablaze.[ads2]
To ensure that these prisoners do not enter Ghana through the various borders, the Ghana Immigration Service has issued a statement alerting all check points to be on a high security alert.
Part of the statement reads, “ I am directed to bring the incident to the attention of all controls. You are to inform officers and men under your command to take note and be on high security alert to prevent the entry of these criminal escapees to Ghana,” the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Laud Affrifah, stated in a wireless message.[ads3]
