The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has handed over a new 160-bed dormitory facility to the Opoku Agyemang Senior High Technical School at Apaa, Mampong, Ashanti Region.
The project, which started in 2020, was financed by GNPC as part of its commitment to supporting the provision of educational infrastructure across the country to enhance teaching and learning.
Handing over the keys to the facility at a brief ceremony, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah rehashed that GNPC’s investment in Education is aimed at building the next generation of Ghana’s leaders who would have been trained with the requisite skills to address the country’s unique challenges and explore the opportunities available to it.
Headmaster of the school, Mr. Enoch Bremang Addo, expressed his gratitude to GNPC for the gesture and pleaded with the foundation to sustain its support to the school as it still lacks many other facilities needed to enhance the academic experience of both students and staff.
Nana Ofosuhene Kwabi, Apaa Akyeamehene, representing the chief of Apaa, Nana Opoku Agyemang, used the opportunity to advise students and teachers to take advantage of the infrastructural gains to give off their best in their academic journeys and calling respectively, to bring honour to themselves and to the Apaa community.[ads3]
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Mampong Municipal Assembly, Hon. Thomas Appiah Kusi said the government is committed to ensuring access to education and to working in collaboration with development agents to support same. He lauded GNPC’s CSR efforts and charged other corporations and businesses in Ghana to take up the challenge of investing in people and communities.[ads4]
Also ongoing at the school, is the construction of a 24-unit sanitary facility being funded by GNPC through the Foundation.
