The Executives of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have lauded the efforts of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for its pivotal role in complimenting Ghana’s developmental agenda through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
Leading a delegation from the students’ body on a courtesy call on the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation in his office, the President of NUGS, Isaac Jay Hyde, commended the Foundation’s sterling impact on Ghanaian students both home and abroad through its scholarship support as well the investments made in developing infrastructure in several educational institutions across the country.[ads2]
“I’d like to commend you on your CSR projects across various sectors and for living up to your mantra of impacting lives. We are very pleased to see GNPC take a proactive course to forestall many of the challenges faced by other resource wealthy countries like Nigeria where citizens have felt left out of the gains from oil production.”[ads3]
With discussions on several matters of mutual interest, the NUGS President shared proposed plans of replicating the farming models of the National Service Scheme to offer opportunities to students and the youth in Agriculture as well as the introduction of an Annual Leadership Training Progarmme for students.
He made overtures seeking greater partnerships and collaboration with the Foundation on some of these ventures.[ads4]
The Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah, expressed his excitement over the visit of the students’ body noting that it was a meeting with Ghana’s future. He stated that GNPC’s decision to redefine its CSR focus is one inspired by a need to invest in longer-lasting legacies with far-reaching impact on human capacity and social infrastructural development within the Corporation’s production enclave and across the country.
He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to working with various stakeholders and development partners to ensuring that revenues accruing from Ghana’s oil business benefit all through social intervention projects in communities, the scholarship opportunities available to students as well the several economic empowerment initiatives run by the Foundation.
Dr. Eduah, encouraged the NUGs executives to continue leveraging their office to seek the betterment of the Ghanaian student.
Other NUGS Executives present at the meeting were Peter Darkwaa, Finance Secretary, Nana Osei Yaw, Information Secretary, and Shadrach Tetteh, Projects Coordinator.
