Speaking at a short ceremony, the MTN Senior Manager for South West Business Prince Owusu Nyarko said the Eid ul-Fitr which is known as the festival of breaking the fast, marks the end of a month of fasting in Ramadan and is usually a time when family and friends get together and celebrate after a month of abstinence from food and drink during daylight hours.
In addition, he said, MTN will also be donating to the Regional Chief Imams in Tamale, Takoradi, and Kumasi, in partnership with EXP, MTN Ghana will donate food items to Muslim families in Nima, Maamobi, Fadama, Ashaiman, Kosoa, Koforidua Zongo, Asawase, Aboabo, Sawaba, Moshie Zongo and Akwatia line.
Mr. Owusu Nyarko stated that the outbreak of COVID-19 has come to change the dynamics of Eidul Fitr traditions. He believes the COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing measures in place have hampered the spirit of Eid and has made things a bit difficult.
“Muslims in some parts of the world will be unable to perform Eid prayers as mosques remain closed. Rather than going out to greet family and friends amidst merry making, the day may have to be spent at home without seeing many loved ones”
“This is certainly different to the Eid celebrations we have experienced and accustomed to in the past. Despite all these changes, Eid remains the time of giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives, focusing on the sunnahs we can fulfil and reach out to those facing greater challenges. For this reason, we are here today to extend our warmest regards and most sincere wishes from the Management and staff of MTN to you for the relationship we have enjoyed with the Muslim Community over the years”, he said..
He disclosed that MTN Ghana will mark the 25th Anniversary of its operations this year and as part of the celebrations, has set-aside the equivalent of US$25 million to carry out several legacy projects across the country with details of the celebrations to be communicated in due time.
The Western Regional Chief Imam was grateful to MTN Ghana for the kind gesture towards the celebration of the Ramadan and asked for Allah’s blessings on the company
