The Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 paid a working visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Nelplast Ghana Limited Nelson Boateng.
Nelplast Ghana Limited are into the processing of plastic waste materials for construction of housing units at a competitive prices.
Their housing unit, made up of plastic waste materials and sand is the first of its kind in the country and contains over seventy percent (70%) of local building materials.
Speaking to the media during the visitation, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye who double as the member of Parliament for Bantama constituency in the Ashanti Region said what the company are into falls in line with the government policy to prioritize the use of local building materials in the provision of safe, decent and affordable housing for Ghanaians, especially for low and medium income earners.
In his remarks, he reiterated that government will actively collaborate with the manufacturer and other private sector partners by providing the needed support and enabling environment for mass production of such housing units which are lower in terms of cost, hence, making it affordable for the ordinary Ghanaian.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye said he finds this initiative highly commendable especially in the wake of recent hikes in prices of cement.
He concluded that while this initiative will largely help in providing jobs for more Ghanaians, it will also address issues of poor disposal of plastic waste across the country.
