Telecommunication giants, MTN on Thursday, May 20, 2021 had an engagement with the Paramount Chief and elders of the Wassa Akropong Traditional council in the Western Region.
The purpose of the engagement was to inform stakeholders about MTN’s investment into expanding the network situation in the country to delight the customer and also to inform them of MTN’s support to government during COVID-19 pandemic.
The engagement was also to educate stakeholders on MTN mobile money and fraud activities associated with it, to reaffirm and strengthen the relationship between MTN and its various stakeholders and solicit ideas and feedback from stakeholders on their understanding on MTN Ghana products and services.
Speaking at the engagement, Mr. Kennedy Ofosuhene who is the corporate services advisor for Southern Ghana, in behalf of the regional senior manager at MTN thanked the chiefs and all stakeholders for their immense support to the MTN brand and announced that it will soon launch its 25th Anniversary which his outfit has set aside USD25million for legacy projects in the country.
On the MTN Ghana Foundation, he said the foundation has three thematic pillars such as health, education and economic empowerment. If any community seeks for community support, it should be tailored to meet the pillar for the Foundation Management Board to consider.
MTN will continue to support government and our communities in the fight against Covid -19 pandemic.
He said a lot of initiatives have been implemented to support staff, customers and government and these include Momo special offer, free browsing on over 200 educational websites, support to Covid Fund and donation of PPEs to over 50 hospitals and SHS.
He added that, “MTN has donated S$25 million to support the African Union’s (AU’s) COVID-19 vaccination programme. Ghana has received 356,000 AstraZeneca doses; this has been administered to health workers and opinion leaders.”
Adding his voice was Mr. Andy Coffie, MTN territory sales controller for Western North, who disclosed that the MTN Network Group has optimized the network to enhance customer experience and added that the major cause of network instability in the Wassa Akropong enclave was because of the activities of galamsay operator who usually cuts fiber in their quest for gold. He pleaded with the chiefs to help educate the operator to help safeguard the infrastructure.
Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, Paramount chief of the Wassa Akropong Traditional Council was grateful for the information and said encouraged MTN to extend network coverage throughout his kingdom, he was sure that will accelerate development that he desire for the state.
