Former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko superstar, Charles Taylor has advised English-born Callum Hudson-Odoi not to play for Ghana despite efforts from the Ghana FA.
Hudson-Odoi has been in the news since arriving in Ghana to visit his family after the league season in Europe with issues of nationality switch as the major conversation in the local media.[ads2]
He recently visited President Akufo-Addo who tasked the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Ghana FA to begin talks with the Chelsea FC player to play for the Black Stars of Ghana.
Though talks are ongoing for a possible nationality switch, Charles Taylor has advised the Hudson-Odoi to concentrate on playing for the three Lions of England than Ghana.[ads3]
“If Odoi is listening to me, I will advise him not to think of playing for the Black Stars. He should continue playing for England even if it is under 100, he should play for them than to play for the Black Stars. Ghana is ending career,” Taylor told Angel TV.
Hudson-Odoi has been a long-term target of the Ghana FA to consider a nationality switch despite playing three times for England at the senior level.
Born to a Ghanaian parents in London, his father Bismark Odoi played for Ghana Premier League heavyweight Hearts of Oak in the early nineties before relocating to England.[ads4]
He is still eligible to play for Ghana per the new FIFA eligibility rules for playing below age 21
He capped 32 matches for English Premier league side Chelsea FC in all competition this season, scoring four goals with three assists[ads5]
