The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has been named after a dormitory block at the Bekwai SDA Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
The 160-bed dormitory built by GNPC through its Foundation (GNPC Foundation) was commissioned weeks ago alongside a 24-Unit Toilet and Bath facility for Bekwai SDA Senior High School (SHS).[ads4]
During the commissioning exercise, Dr. KK Sarpong premised GNPC’s interventions in the Education sector on the recognition that government is overstretched and thus, called for corporate entities to extend support to schools and institutions so as to make academic works bearable for both students and teachers.
It should be recalled that during the commissioning exercise, DR. KK Sarpong said that, “a trip across the country would show GNPC’s enormous investment in the education sector with the construction of some 162 6-unit classroom blocks to enhance teaching and learning,” he said.[ads3]
“As a national corporation, we decided that Ghana’s oil money must benefit every Ghanaian. This is why the Foundation was operationalized to design and implement social intervention and investment programs that bring relief to Ghanaians regardless of where they are,” he added.
He added that GNPC prioritizes value for money and lauded the Project Consultant and Contractor for delivering on quality with a very competitive budget.
He hinted that GNPC, through the Foundation, will bring more focus to the health sector with plans to expand its support to health institutions and the provision of healthcare infrastructure such as Community Based Health Planning and Services facilities (CHPS compounds) in communities with dire need for such.
On his part, the MP for Bekwai Constituency and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, thanked the GNPC for its developmental role in Ghana and for extending its support to the people of Bekwai.
Mr. Kofi Anane Afoakwa, Headmaster of Bekwai SDA SHS, expressed the school’s profound gratitude to the GNPC Foundation for coming to its aid and assured that plans have been put in place to ensure its sustainable use over a long period of time. He said the school, by its projections, will be able to discontinue the double track shift system in favor of a single track if GNPC could assist it with a 12-Unit classroom block – a request the Foundation has assured to take into consideration.[ads2]
And as a sign of expressing their gratitude to DR. KK Sarpong have named the dormitory block after him.
