The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has said there is an astronomical upsurge in the number of Covid-19 cases on campus.
This was in a press release dated July, 19, 2021 and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Daniel Kumi-Djan, which state that school authorities have, therefore, directed that there should be strict adherence to all Covid-19 safety protocols at the various colleges to curtail the spread.[ads2]
“There is an astronomical upsurge in the spread of Covid-19 on KNUST campus. Consequently, all veronica buckets are to be filled and used constantly. Also, hand sanitising and wearing of nose masks are to be strictly enforced,” portions of the communique read.
This comes few hours after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Metropolitan Health Directorate announced that 200 new cases have been recorded within a space of two weeks with ten deaths.
This was from July 1, 2021 to July 13, 2021 – with the disregard to the Covid-19 protocols as the main reason why there is an upsurge in the cases.[ads3]
“The new cases of the Delta variant in the metropolis were detected soon after the Christmas festivities in 2020. From July 1 to July 13, health facilities within the metropolis have recorded over 200 infection cases with 10 mortalities occurring at different treatment centres,” a press release revealed.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed that the country’s active Covid-19 cases stand at 2,858, while 382 new cases have been recorded.
