The Sekondi High Court has set to resume sitting on the Essikado-Ketan parliamentary election petition on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections, Grace Ayensu-Danquah is challenging the result declared by the Electoral Commission.[ads2]
Joe Ghartey, the incumbent Member of Parliament was declared the winner by the EC in the said elections.
Ghartey polled 26,701 out of the 52,392 votes cast to retain the Essikado-Ketan parliamentary seat.[ads3]
His closest contender, the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate, Grace Ayensu-Danquah, secured 24,527 votes while the candidate of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) had 629.
But Grace Ayensu-Danquah who was confident of victory believes there some irregularities in the election hence her decision to challenge the result at the Sekondi High Court.
The court has sit on the case on several occasions and Wednesday, July 28, 2021 application directions is to determine the issues to set for trial.[ads5]
