Many have criticized the right-back for not impressing in his debut game for the Black Stars and Fatawu Mohammed has explained why he underperformed in the game.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Angel FM, the Hearts of Oak skipper revealed that he was a bit scared when he saw the FNB Stadium for the very first time which affected his performance on the field of play.[ads3]
He said that, “Honestly, I got a bit scared when I saw the (FNB) stadium because the pitch is very very huge and it wouldn’t have been easy with supporters in the stands. Because the moment you enter the stadium you realise that indeed you are in a stadium.
“But at long last, we played in an empty stadium so that eased some pressure off; If the supporters had been there the way the pressure was high, it would have been more. But without the supporters, it felt like no man’s land,” he added.[ads4]
The Black Stars arrived in Ghana on Tuesday after the defeat with the players heading back to their respective clubs before the next international break in October.
Ghana currently sit second with three points in the group after two matches same as Ethiopia with South Africa leading the group with four points.[ads5]
