[ads2]The Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Ghana has rolled out some measures to address the issue of mobile money and SIM card fraud head-on in the country.
This was revealed by the Corporate Service Executive of MTN, Sam Koranteng, at an Editor’s forum in Takoradi.
Mr. Koranteng indicated that MTN has outlined three key areas namely Technology and Process, Education and Awareness and Industrial Alliances to tackle the canker.
He explained that one of the tool, the company is using to curtail fraud activities on their platform is Technology and Process such as AI/ML technology for productive fraud analysis and prevention to support existing platform and an advanced and sonic SMS filtering solution including real time validation of IDs during on boarding of customers.[ads4]
He further explained that MTN is using education and awareness campaign via multiple channels, extension of fraud reporting channels to MyMTN, customer Apps and website and improving complaints feedback to customers as several steps to fight mobile money and SIM card fraud.
The Corporate Service Executive mentioned industrial alliances as the final steps to fight the fraudulent activities. He said the third step will also help the company use inter-MNO blocking of fraudster IMEI, working with law enforcement agencies to ensure prosecution of suspects and denial of Pin reset for 48 hours after SIM swap.
Mr. Koranteng however, expressed worry over some media houses, especially television stations giving their platforms for money doubling fraudsters to use it as medium to defraud people.[ads2]
He appealed to those TV stations to stop giving the money doubling fraudsters the platform because its surmount to criminality.
He added that apart from mobile money and SIM card fraud advertisement on TV, money doubling on some television stations is another problem the mobile telecommunications company is facing.
