Goldstar Air, a wholly owned Ghanaian Airline, as part of its corporate social responsibility presented Personal Protective Equipments (PPE”s) during the 14th CANA African Junior/Senior Open Water Championship held at the Trust Sports Emporium FINA-approved pool in Accra.
The pool situated in the heart of the country’s capital, and constructed by the Trust Sports Emporium, houses other facilities including the popular Bukom Boxing Arena, which has hosted many high profile boxing events, the Ga Mashie Boxing Hall, conference facilities, a gymnasium and a physiotherapy center.
The pool has all standard requirements and fittings required for the International Swimming Federation’s (FINA) certification and it is 25m by 50m pool and also has a giant underground pumping and filtration plant.[ads1]
The Manager of Cargo services of the airline Mr. John Ashong-Mettle presented the items on behalf of Mr. Eric Bannerman the Executive Chairman of Goldstar Air and was received by the president of the Ghana Swimming Federation, Mrs. Delphina Quaye.
Mr. John Ashong-Mettle noted the purpose of the presentation was to augment the Swimming federation’s efforts in ensuring that lives are not lost to the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic during and after the competition. As a country we have clawed acclamation following the stringent measures put in place by government to stem the tide and as a company that subscribes to the president’s resolve to protect every single Ghanaian, we have made our minds up to complement the effort of central government in this regard,” remarked Mr. John Ashong-Mettle, manager of cargo services of Goldstar Air.[ads4]
Mrs. Delphina Quaye thanked Goldstar Air profusely for making this timely donation and also acknowledged the Ministry of Youth and Sports(MOYS), the National Sports Authority(NSA), the Ghana Olympic Committee(GOC) and other sponsors whose generous supports made the championship a remarkable success.
The elated president remarked that “I am calling on other corporate bodies dotted around the country to take a cue from Goldstar Air to augment the federation’s drive to keep at arm’s length the fangs of the lethal pandemic, adding that since gradually restrictions are being lifted and sporting activities are bouncing back, it is important we uphold to the letter the measures rolled-out to ensure our safety,’’ The bigger dream is to make world champions and Olympic Gold medalists in this country with regular competition and the right support, we are sure to make a major impact in swimming around the world, she stated.[ads3]
The airline has also sponsored a couple of sports journalists from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and other media organizations to cover major tournaments in and out of Ghana. On March 24, 2016, the airline sponsored the match between Ghana Black Stars and Mozambique at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ghanaian airline donated a trophy to the Assemblies of God Church in the Greater Accra Region for its annual fun games competition, which was accepted on behalf of the church by Mr Samuel Mankrom, regional Sports Organizer of the church’s Greater Accra Youth Ministry, who was accompanied by Mr John Tawiah and Mr Isaac Danso Otchere, both Youth Ministry representatives.
Goldstar Air presented boxing equipment and cash donations to the Willpower Boxing Gym in Accra’s James Town.
The donations are intended to revitalize juvenile boxing, which has been dormant for some time, and to collaborate with the Willpower Gym to help stem the growth of young people who may have boxing talents but instead end up on the streets by taking the roaming gym national.[ads1]
The airline has also sponsored Salafest boxing shows at Accra’s Opera Square, which are staged by Pakis Promotion in partnership with Junior Walaga Promotions, and the event has been recognized as a success.

The presentation was witnessed by the association’s General Secretary Mr. Muniru Kassim, Mr. Adolf Ankrah, and other officials of the Ghana Swimming Association.
