The National Media Commission (NMC) has said Captain Smart acted unprofessionally in a broadcast which led to his arrest by the police.
The popular broadcaster and host of Onua FM/TV morning show was arrested by the The Nima Divisional Police Command on Thursday, December 2, 2021, for some unsavoury pronouncements that hinge on peace and security.[ads2]
“He has been cautioned on the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace as provided under section 207 of the Criminal Act, 1960 (Act 29)”, statement from the police reads.
However, the National Media Commission in a letter to the Management of Onua FM/TV has described Captain Smart actions as unprofessional, and one that he crossed the line of robust and critical broadcasting and “transforming your radio station into a megaphone of war.”[ads3]
The Commission believes the broadcast by Captain Smart constituents grounds for regulatory actions, and has therefore urged the Management of Onua FM/TV to recheck its content or will have the commission bring all contents of the station unto a level of professional acceptability.
