As part of Goldstar Air’s corporate social responsibility, the wholly-owned Ghanaian airline donated Personal Protective
Equipment (PPEs) to the Community Education and Youth Development Centre in Kawukudi, Accra, for their Lessons and
Carols night on December 16th, 2021.
The Community Education and Youth Development Centre (CEYDC), formerly known as the Community Cultural Youth
Centre (CYCC), is a government-run agency that works with the National Commission on Culture to provide youth with necessary
vocational and entrepreneurial skills to help them improve their
lives.[ads1]
Mr. John Ashong-Mettle, the airline’s cargo manager, and Mr.Dennis Kwabeng, the head of cabin services, presented the donations on behalf of the Executive Chairman/CEO, Mr. Eric Bannerman, and were received by Dr. Akosua Abdallah, Director
of Community Education and Youth Development, who expressed
his gratitude to Goldstar Air for recognizing and appreciating the Centre’s efforts through puppetry transmissions.
Dr Akosua Abdallah acknowledges that the PPEs will benefit not just the department, but also all of the covid19 outreach locations
that the Community Education and Youth Development will be visiting as part of the “Mask Up Covid Down” campaign.
She also stated that Covid 19 has ravaged countries and economies, disrupting most people’s daily lives.
Though governments and private institutions have attempted to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, some successes have been achieved, though some challenges remain. It was thus very heartening when
the management and staff of Goldstar Air, a new skyline that will soon be in the skies of Ghana and the global air space, donated the
Personal Protective Equipment that is critical in the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic.
“As a cultural institution, we deem it vital in orienting the youth in taking the cultural pathway to help sustain our rich cultural
heritage to enhance their lots,” Dr. Akosua Abdallah said in her address, “in line with the government’s plans to train the youth
with relevant vocational and entrepreneur skills.”[ads1]
She urged businesses to work with the government to promote youth programs that will aid in the nation’s development, stating that an economy’s future structure is decided by today’s investment in human capital and new skills to propel society toward progress and prosperity.
The cargo service manager Mr John Ashong-Mettle said, “The management of the airline chose to support this initiative as part
of its corporate social duty and as a business that shares the President’s resolve to safeguard every Ghanaian.”
“We applaud the Community Education and Youth Development Centre on their outstanding efforts to preserve the country’s distinctive cultural identity and values in order to promote an integrated national culture, tourism and contribute to the country’s overall economic development.”
We understand the challenges of finding employment, so involving these young people at this early stage will provide them with a valuable skill set that will help them make a living in the future,” he added.
Creativity is now the most valuable asset for young people to take calculated risks in the early stages of their lives and careers when a wide range of options were available, and the lack of opportunities for young people to experiment with new ideas and take risks usually distinguished a creative, flexible, entrepreneurial society.
Goldstar Air is committed to the development of Ghana, so its cabin crew will sell Ghana-made items and promote Ghana tourist
attractions on board and will feature 70 percent local content, including Ghanaian food, music, movies, and announcements in the majority of our Ghanaian languages, and aims to improve the Ghanaian economy by providing affordable fares and incentives to travel agents.
The airline recently provided personal protective equipment to the Tourism Society of Ghana (YOSOGHA) for the launch of the Youth in Tourism Festival (YOTOFEST) at the University of Education in Winneba, Central Region, and the festival, on the other hand, is set to take place for the first time in the Central Region in June 2022 at the University of Education, Winneba.[ads2]
