The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has explained reason why the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament decided to leave for the Second Deputy Speaker to sit in during proceedings on Monday, December 20, 2021.
He explained that the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu was not feeling well during proceedings in Parliament on Monday hence the reason why he decided to leave for the Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako to take over.
“The first deputy speaker was feeling yesterday. The reason why he had to let the Second Deputy Speaker take over,” he said at a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday December 21.[ads2]
“[Joewise] indicated he wanted to go and take his medication and use the loo,” he added.
It was a chaotic scene and an eyesore in Parliament on Monday when the parliamentarians resorted to fighting each other while the final voting on the E-levy was about to start.[ads3]
This was after the sit-in Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, had announced that a division will be followed to approve the Bill, presented under a certificate of urgency, and will also vote in his capacity as a Member of Parliament.
This provoked the minority side , who raised red flags about his decision to vote after presiding over the night’s proceedings.
The Minority MPs moved to the front of the dais, issuing threats at the Bekwai MP.
The actions of the Minority also provoked the Majority who agitated.[ads4]
To be able to vote, Mr Osei-Owusu immediately handed the presiding role to the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, and the fight broke out.
