An officer with the Ghana Navy in the Western Region has passed away after an attack by unknown assailants on Wednesday.
Okyere Boateng was attacked and burnt by unknown car snatchers on Wednesday night at Bakado, a suburb in Sekondi in the Western Region when operating as a bolt driver to compliment his income.[ads2]
According to reporters, the deceased was stopped at Ketan by the assailants fo a hail and ride to Chocolate City, a popular place in Sekondi but upon reaching Bakado, one of the assailants decided to alight and at that point the other accomplice at the backseat attacked him.
It is said that the other accomplice at the backseat poured petrol on the deceased with the attempt to set him ablaze but he was able to scream for help with the culprits taking to their heels.[ads3]
He was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital but due to the severity of the burns, Okyere was flown to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for medical attention.
But Takoradi-based Connect FM presenter Paa Kwesi Simpson is reporting that Okyere Boateng has died, leaving behind a wife and kids.[ads5]
