The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, who is also Paramount Chief of Breman Traditional Area, has extolled the efforts of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its contribution towards the development of communities and people of the Central region and Ghana as a whole.
Addressing guests at the handing over ceremony of a new 6-Unit classroom block constructed by the GNPC Foundation for Kuntunase Presby Basic School in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa district, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII said despite that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities have become a standard corporate practice in today’s business world, GNPC’s commitment to playing its part in Ghana’s development agenda must be commended by all and emulated by other corporate institutions.[ads3]
He added that the Foundation’s work is amply visible in many communities across the Central Region and is seen in the areas of human capacity building through educational sponsorships and infrastructural development, health and sanitation infrastructure development, provision of potable water to deprived communities and the funding of economic empowerment programmes for Ghana’s youth.
He pledged the continuous support of chiefs and people in his area to GNPC’s business as a national oil operator so as to ensure its growth and from which the plight of communities in need could be alleviated.
The GNPC mandate in the Central Region
GNPC’s CSR mandate, as managed and executed by the GNPC Foundation, has invested in a plethora of developmental projects across Ghana.
Many of these projects have been completed with others in various stages of completion in the Central Region.
By numbers, GNPC, today, has over 70 projects across the several Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies in the central region.
These are classroom blocks, science laboratories, dormitory facilities, sanitary blocks, Astroturf facilities and water (boreholes) projects.
Under its School Infrastructure Programme, the Central Region has a total of 15 6-Unit classroom blocks funded by GNPC across 15 Senior High and Basic schools in the region and is funding the construction of a science laboratory at Bisease SHS and a Girls’ dormitory at Mando SHS, both in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam district.
The Foundation is also constructing 10 12-Unit sanitary facilities across 9 beneficiary communities and schools.
The region is a beneficiary of 2 artificial soccer turfs with flood lighting and wire fencing. One in Mankessim is completed and handed over for the community’s use and another currently ongoing in Enyan Abaasa in Ajumako Enyan Essiam district.
Also distributed across the region are some 45 borehole water projects being funded by GNPC to ease access to potable drinking water and help curb the spate of water and hygiene related diseases.
GNPC’s CSR focus seeks to reach and positively impact as many Ghanaians and communities within the Corporation’s production enclave as possible without neglecting the needs of those outside of it as means to ensuring every Ghanaian benefits from the windfall of Ghana’s oil activities.
