Services Basic Junior High School from Takoradi, were on Thursday 5th July,2018 crowned over all winners in the JHS Category of the GNPC Foundation STEM Quiz 2018 at the Push Akroma Plaza Hotel in Takoradi.
The event which is first in the region and fully Sponsored by the GNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social investments arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) , is one of the key innovative Corporate Social responsibility of the foundation in the region is aimed at lmpacting the lives of the people positively.
According to the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr. Kwame Baah – Nuako, the GNPC Foundation said the Quiz is aim at Catching the public School pupils young in the area of STEM and to build their Confidence in Maths and Science which holds much for the extractive industry and Ghana’s overall development.
The Competition which started with 132 schools , 6 schools per District , went through the preliminaries in 22 District ,before it was grouped into 6 Zonal Champions in the Western Region.
In the Primary School Category ,Bibiani AGBL,Golden Star D/A Primary, Abura RE, Fosukrom D/A , Navy Basic and Torya D/A Primary , made it to the finals while as in the Junior High School level , Watico , GREL Basic , Essiama Methodist, Juaboso D/A, Services Basic and Enchico Demonstration also made it to the finals.
In the grand final for the Primary School Category, Golden Star D/A came first after seeing off Competition from Torya D/A Primary .
They were presented with a trophy , medal , a cheque of GH 5,000 and other souvenirs from the GNPC Foundation .
Torya D/A Primary ,who placed 2nd also received a received a cheque of GH 3,000.
In the Junior High School Category, Services Basic JHS from Takoradi also emerged as winners with 27 points ahead of Juaboso
D/ A JHS and Rnchico Demonstration .
They were presented with a trophy , medal and a cheque of GH 5,000 plus some Souvenirs.
Watico Demonstration who placed 2nd also took home a cheque of GH 3,000 and other prizes from GNPC Foundation.
The Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of GNPC, Dr. K.K.Sarpong also added a personal Gh1,000 each to the winners of the competition.
The program was attended by High Profile personalities which includes the Deputy Western Regional Minister Hon. Gifty Eugenia Kusi , Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi ll , Paramount Chief of Sefwi – Bekwei traditional area, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and the GNPC Foundation Board of Trustees and Staff from the GNPC Foundation.
