The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has completed and handed overq1a a new astro turf at Manhyia in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
At a ceremony to hand over the facility located at the Konadu Yiadom Basic School Park, Dr. Dominic Eduah, the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, said GNPC is committed to supporting the development of sporting talents across communities and expects that the facility would serve the people of Manhyia South and the Ashanti region in the honing of skills amongst the youth.
“Our focus is one targeted at ensuring every Ghanaian benefits from Ghana’s oil activities and with football as the Nation’s sports of choice, it’s become imperative that we support the building of facilities that would ensure young footballers can train on standard pitches,” he added.
Dr. Eduah tasked city authorities to ensure the facility is maintained to serve the community for a long time.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of BLAG Ghana; the project contractors, Mr. Eddie Dankwa, the transformation of the Konadu Yiadom Basic School Park, forms part of several similar projects being funded by the GNPC Foundation across the country to provide an opportunity to the youth in improving on their skills on world class facilities.
Nana Kwaku Duah, Kokosohene, who chaired the event expressed his appreciation to GNPC for project calling it an important intervention to helping reduce youth unemployment in the long run. building the artificial pitch for the residents of Manhyia South.
