The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed teachers and those occupying government schools and bungalows to pay ten percent (10%) of their salaries as rent.
A release signed by the Western Regional director of Education, Felicia Agyeibea Okai state that the directive is one from the Ministry of Finance and takes effect from March 1, 2022.
“In line with the efforts to streamline the anomalies with regards to the payment of rents for occupying schools or government bungalows, I wish to draw your attention to Ministry of Finance circular No. 133385/05/06NTR CAGD of 15th May, 2006 requires that occupants of government bungalows are expected to pay 10% of their basic salaries as rent.
“I therefore write to inform you that with effect from 1st March 2022, all Teachers/Staff occupying School/Government bungalow are to pay 10% of their basic salary,” said the Western Regional Education Director.
The statement further urge occupants to pay all arrears to avoid audit issues.
