Mobile telecommunication giant, MTN through its foundation and the Bawjiase Polyclinic has marked this year’s World Malaria Day celebration with screening and sensitisation campaigns among residents in the Central region town.
The initiative formed part of its numerous Corporate Social Responsibilities, aimed at complementing the efforts of the National Malaria Control Programme and Ghana Health Service in eradicating the disease.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines at the durbar held in Bawjiase on Monday, April 25, 2022 Mr Ebenezer Tekper , Advisor, Education Portfolio of the MTN Foundation indicated that the purpose of the initiative is to help eradicate the devastating effect of the malaria disease in the society, by educating the Ghanaian populance the best way to protect themselves against the disease.
“Our main aim is to control the devastating effect of malaria in our communities. We chose here [Bawjiase] to celebrate this year’s World Malaria Day because of the relationship we have started. MTN Foundation has helped the clinic in constructing an accident facility unit.
“For us in MTN Foundation, national priority are our focus as well which is in respect to health. We have done so many in education and economic empowerment and we will continue support the management of Bawjiase Polyclinic in any that we can”, he added.
On her part, Madam Dorothy Van Tay, a senior staff midwife who works at the Antenatal Care Unit and the Postnatal Care Unit of the clinic said, ” we should heed to the directives [against malaria] . There are one of two measures to practice and key among the sleeping under treated mosquito net. Malaria kills and therefore we must be very careful and comply with the directives to ensure a malaria-free society.”
This year’s celebration was under the theme ‘Zero mosquito, no malaria.’
